Creator Space at East Quay

PEARCE+Fægen, working with Environmental Psychologist Helen King, Lean Structures and Dark Source Lighting, were commissioned to design the new education facility at the East Quay project in North Somerset. Focusing on nurturing creativity, the space caters for all ages.

The space allows for flexibility, self-determination, adaptability and user control to promote creativity. A landscape that can be used to sit, stand, lie, or hide surrounds the space’s perimeter, which can be reorganised for any activity. Inflated fabric balls improve the acoustics of the room and offer a fidget friendly seating option when required. RGBW colour controlled lighting designed by Dark Source adds an additional layer of control and flexibility in the space. Overall the space is the anti-classroom the local school children set out when asked what would help them feel creative.
